Many older adults experience a fear of falling. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is a program designed for empowerment to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults.

Day Break is a social model, group respite program for caregivers and their care recipiants. This program is designed to provide care recipiants with opportunities to enjoy social and recreational activities in a safe and secure environment.   Day Break meets three times a week: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-2pm.  Day Break meeting locations are at the Boone United Methodist Church on Mondays and Fridays and Deerfield Ridge Assissted Living on Wednesdays.

Tai Chi for Arthritis is an evidence based program designed to improve strength, flexibility and fitness through a beginner form of Sun style tai chi.  The program improves balance, both mentally and physically, thus significantly reduces the rate of falls in older adults. Additional benefits include improving relaxation, vitality, posture, and immunity.  Join us on Mondays at 1pm, starting January 12th at the Ashe County Senior Center in West Jefferson, NC.

Tai Chi for Arthritis - Advanced Class, is an extension of the foundational Tai Chi for Arthritis evidence based program.    This class will deepen your knowledge of the original TCA form and add on the additional "TCA part 2" form series as well as integrate additional Qigong exercises into our practice.  As the collective class knowledge and ability permits, we will transition into learning the traditional Sun 73 Form.

The Avery County Senior Center hosts a specialized adult day program for persons with memory loss from Alzheimer's Disease or a related disorder. Caregiver's Haven is a small-group program in a comfortable, homelike setting where participants enjoy friendship and meaningful activities. Caregivers get time out for personal needs, etc. The program is therapeutic for participants and helps families keep their loved ones at home.
