Strong Body, Strong Mind: Tai Chi for Arthritis for Fall Prevention

Location:
Boone United Methodist Church: Boone, NC

Strong Body, Strong Mind is the new name for our Tai Chi for Arthritis for Fall Prevention programs.  TCAFP is an evidence-based falls prevention program recognized by the CDC, National Council on Aging (NCOA), and U.S. Administration for Community Living. Developed by Dr. Paul Lam at the Tai Chi for Health Institute (TCHI), the program utilizes Tai Chi’s Sun style for its ability to improve relaxation, balance and its ease of use for older adults. We will be pairing up with Appalachian State University to also look at the cognitive benefits of tai chi - as the most recent recommendations for maximizing brain health with age is to focus on exercise, stress reduction, and cognitive skills, all of which are addressed in tai chi.

Class will meet on Mondays and Fridays from 1-2pm, beginning July 9th, 2018.  Class location is room 200 at the Boone United Methodist Church.  An additional cognitive health program will occur directly after tai chi on Fridays from 2-3pm.
