The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a federally-funded program designed to assist older workers with re-entering the job market. SCSEP grant funding subsidizes qualified participants to work in a government or non-profit "host agency" for the purpose of gaining the skills and connections needed to obtain unsubsidized employment. Additional training and support is provided by the SCSEP Regional Coordinator who assists the participants with finding and applying for unsubsidized positions.

Who is eligible to become a participant?

  • 55 years old or older
  • Unemployed
  • Income within 125% of federal poverty level

Value of Becoming a Host Agency

Host agencies reap the benefit of an extra part-time employee at no cost. Wages, payroll, FICA, and Worker's Compensation are all handled through the High Country Council of Governments/Area Agency on Aging. The annual value of a participant is more than $8,000 per year! The host agency is expected to provide the employee with a job description, job-specific training and supervision, and an annual evaluation.
