Day Break is a social model, group respite program for caregivers and their care recipiants. This program is designed to provide care recipiants with opportunities to enjoy social and recreational activities in a safe and secure environment.   Day Break meets three times a week: Tuesdays, from 1-5pm at the Alliance Bible Fellowship, Wednesdays from 1-5pm at Deerfield Ridge Assisted Living, and Fridays, from 10am-2pm at the Boone United Methodist Church.

Alleghany Wellness Center: Sparta, NC

The Alleghany Wellness Center and Alleghany Council on Aging are co-hosting "Senior Day" events the first Friday of every month from 10am to 12 noon.  Activities for all abilities will be offered and lunch served.  There is no charge for the event, but participants are encouraged to consider membership options at the wellness center to enhance their own personal fitness and health.

Different Ways of Grieving, Different Ways of Healing with Douglas Smith.  Douglas is a professional speaker, trainer, consultant and counselor who provides a holistic approach to the physical, psychological and spiritual dimensions of grieving and loss.  Douglas will be speaking at the Watauga Medical Center Auditorium from 9-11am, Lees McRae College from 2-4pm and Appalachian State University from 6-8pm.

Hard Choices for Loving People with Chaplain Hank Dunn.  Chaplain Dunn has ministered patients and their families at the end of life for over 30 years. He is the author of several books, which are used in more than 5,000 hospitals, nursing homes, faith communiteis and hospice programs nationwide. Chaplin Dunn will be speaking at the Watauga Medical Center Auditorium from 9-11am, Lees McRae College from 2-4pm and Appalachian State University from 6-8pm.

Seeing It From the Other Side: Normal Aging and Not Normal Aging with Kathy Tucky.  Kathy is a Dementia Training Specialist and a certified trainer of Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care.  Kathy will be speaking at the Watauga Medical Center Auditorium from 9-11am, Lees McRae College from 2-4pm and Appalachian State University from 6-8pm.  Admission: $5 gift or equivalent food donation which will be given to the Hunger and Health Coalition.
